Jens Christiansen (1802 to 1881) and Ane Kirstine Nielsen (1807 to 1871) –
Helena Jensen’s Great-grandparents
Jens Christiansen was born about 1802 in Ballum, Tonder,
Denmark that lies close to the German border on the sea. Ane
Kirstine Nielsen was born on January 25, 1807, in Norre
Bork, Norre Horne, Ringkobing, Denmark, see map below. They
were married around 1830, probably in Norre Bork, Ringkobing,
where all six of their children were born. Their first son
was our great-grandfather, Christian Thomsen Jensen, who was
born in 1832.1 The Danish Census for 1834 indicates Jens
lived on a farm and was a bailiff, a court attendant
entrusted with a variety of duties. Also at this time, they
had a maid living in the home.2 Later, he was a county
commissioner.3 He died on February 11, 1881. Ane died on
September 22, 1871.1
