Johan J Hubschmann and Maren J Raben - Helena Jensen’s Great Grandparents
Johan Jorgensen Hubschmann was born on Jan 21, 1803, in
Nurstrup, Haderslev, Denmark. On October 10, 1833, he
married Maren Johansen Raben. Maren was born on February 22,
1807, in Toftlund, Haderslev, Denmark As their surnames
indicate, they were born close to the German border.
Johan was a school teacher in Gamst. Later, they moved to
Norre Nebel where he continued as a school teacher and later
became a church singer and parish clerk. He was known as a
clever and capable teacher. The young couple rented a home
from carpenter Hoys. Around 1850, they purchased a small
parcel of land in Praesteby. In 1852, they built a home
(later called the old veterinary’s residence). Their three
children were born in Norre Nebel, Ringkobimg, Denmark (see
Section 9 for a map showing this city).
Johan became very weak. As a result, Mr. Moller and Mr.
Knudsenhe helped him in the classroom. Due to his illness,
he retired early and received a pension. At the age of 59,
he died at his home on January 10, 1863. Maren died on
September 26, 1879, in Norre Nebel. Their son-in-law, Johan
Holm, took over the property.
